Change Agent – Engaging Your Passion to be the One Who Makes a Difference

by Os Hilman (published by Charisma House, 2011)

Whether you are a CEO, home maker, student, manager or church leader, you have a circle of influence and the ability to shape culture for God’s purpose – to be a change agent.

This helpful and practical book begins by explaining the prophetic word given simultaneously by God to Loren Cunningham (founder of YWAM), Bill Bright (founder of Campus Crusade) and Francis Schaeffer (theologian and founder of L’Abri).  This outlines the seven spheres of society that define modern culture and calls Christians to influence each of these spheres to change the culture within which we find ourselves.  These spheres are sometimes known as the seven mountains of culture: family, government, arts and entertainment, media, business, education and church.

Os Hilman then unpacks what it takes for Christians to become change agents – to be equipped by God and the Holy Spirit to bring about change on one of these mountains.   He goes on to set out mountain by mountain some practical examples of what it will take to reclaim that aspect of modern culture for the Kingdom of God.

A number of American preachers are teaching about the seven mountains, some with pretty dodgy theology, but in our view Os Hilman is the most balanced of the bunch.  This book is a well-rounded exposition of how to be an agent for change where God has placed you
