Discipling and mentoring

Throughout the year you will receive one-to-one mentoring from the School of Ministry Pastor, and have access to your own personal mentor who will invest in your spiritual growth.  There will also be lots of opportunities to disciple each other as your cohort journeys through the year.

Theological Studies

We are committed to robust theological training and throughout the year we host world-class teachers from Oxford and further afield. You will receive six hours of teaching a week as well as termly assignments.

Teaching modules include: Biblical Studies, Pastoral Studies, Theology, Leadership (including preaching workshops) and Mission and Evangelism.

Evangelism

Situated in the heart of Oxford, a city which attracts people from all over the world, we have a unique and exciting opportunity to invite people to meet Jesus for the first time. Our students get involved with Alpha each term, as well as other outreach initiatives.

Hands-on Ministry

About half of our time each week will be spent working within one of our ministry departments.  You’ll become a key part of that team, overseen by your placement supervisor, as you learn and help to make church happen.

Where could you thrive? Find out more about available placements below.

Placements

  • We’re passionate about seeing families grow closer to each other and to Jesus, and to see kids and young people, the rising generation, discover who God is. Help make this happen by working with our team to lead both our Sunday Kids and Youth sessions, and midweek groups.

  • There are over 40,000 Undergraduate and Postgraduate students that come to Oxford every year to live and learn. We want to give every student the opportunity to find home in our church, and be formed by Jesus for a life of purpose. Get involved in running our student nights, small groups and supporting students one-to-one.

  • Oxford is known across the world for its breath-taking beauty and ancient university. But every night people sleep rough on the pavements beneath its famous spires. Our ACT team are building a community where the homeless, prisoners, ex-offenders and others are transformed and set free to become all they were intended to be. This challenging placement will embed you in the team as you help to run our drop-in sessions, community houses, food provision and more.

  • People have been worshipping at St Aldates for over 1,000 years. Our Worship team, led by Lauren Harris and Jamie Thomson not only lead worship at our church but seek to serve the local church through song-writing and providing training for other worship pastors. Our Production team cover sound, lighting, cameras and visuals, both for those in the building but also for our livestream.

  • Do you love photography, videography, social media, web-design or graphic design? Then this could be the placement for you – Our Communications Manager leads our in-house team of volunteers to shoot, edit, design and publish all our content, to enable us to communicate with our church family and tell people about Jesus.

  • None of what happens at St Aldates would be possible with our Operations Team. From IT to Finance, Facilities Management to Event Support, we can work with you to create a placement that helps you to gain experience, as you help to mak church happen.

  • St Mary’s is our partner church, serving the Barton, Sandhills and Barton Park estates. If you want a placement that allows you to get involved in a variety of different types of ministries, from youth and kids to worship, preaching, community outreach and more, all in an urban priority area, we’d love to hear from you.
