Life in All Its Fulness
Anita and I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all involved in building up St Aldates, and to share more about exciting plans for extending our mission further.
As you read these reports you will find a display of dynamic life and fruitfulness despite suffering. Through your contributions – time, loving service, ideas, ministry, and through your generous giving, you have built Church at the heart of Oxford and we thank God for you.
Recently I believe God spoke to me over the course of 24 hours about the primary call on my life: to be a worshipper of Jesus and lead a whole community to worship Christ in the beautiful but contested ground of Oxford. Worship involves our whole lives, including work, family and community.
Anita also has been stirred by the image in the book of Revelation of incense/prayers going up to God – a fragrant, costly ceaseless offering, which makes its way up to the throne of God.
We want to call everyone associated with St Aldates back to the heart of worship for the coming year – to be a house of prayer for all nations at the heart of Oxford.
Worship leads to Mission, and the vision of St Aldates is to draw more and more people to Christ. We do this by means of all the activities described overleaf and by our personal witness. In addition we have a grand plan…
CHRIST IN OXFORD
Telling the extraordinary stories of people with a vision of eternity amidst Oxford’s dreaming spires.
Working with distinguished academics, event companies and partners, we want to invent a world- class exhibition telling the history of Christianity in Oxford to the residents, students and school age children, and to the 7+ million tourists who visit this city year upon year from all over the world. We want to ‘unblock the wells’ of stories that our culture is currently at risk of forgetting.
As well as telling courageous stories through multi media and treasured objects, we want to give an ‘experience of God’ that will help visitors themselves meet ‘Christ in Oxford’.
Oxford is currently undergoing a £440m facelift of the Westgate Centre. Opening in 2017, this development will have 100 new shops, 25 restaurants and cafes, a cinema and a 1,000 space underground car park, roof top terrace dining and new public spaces bringing even more of the world to our doorstep. We want to be ready at such a time as this.
