On Advent Sunday, our senior leaders Charlie and Anita Cleverly announced to the whole Church their plan to hand over leadership of St Aldates in the Summer of 2020. They will by then have served in leading St Aldates for 18 years, since the summer of 2002.
This announcement followed months of careful preparation with the Senior Team and the Bishop and Church Wardens.
Simon Ponsonby writes: “We are filled with gratitude for all that God has brought to and blessed St Aldates with through Charlie & Anita’s remarkable ministry”
On Advent Sunday, after his and Anita’s announcement, Charlie Cleverly preached from Haggai 2 on the theme of Advent and preparing for the coming glory of God. He also gave a word for St Aldates in this season of change, particularly calling for: Faith during a time of shaking; Desiring God in this season; and that ‘the best is yet to be’ for St Aldates. Charlie and Anita have written a fuller account of their plans as far as they know them - available on request from them.
Please pray for them at this time.
Please also pray for the right leaders to emerge to take the Community forward into the next season. The process of finding the next Rector has been initiated and will involve the PCC, several of our staff, the Bishop, the Patrons (the Simeon’s Trust) in consultation and the whole congregation in prayer
The PCC met on December 12th to start the process of finding a new Rector. A ‘Section 11’ meeting was held and Chris Gillies and Funmi Durodola were elected as Parish Representatives. This is a formal and legal role and the Parish Reps will act on behalf of the PCC in the selection of a new Rector. The PCC will be gathering views from the congregation and staff about our future direction as the PCC consults together and writes the role profile. As we have said: Please pray for the PCC and especially Chris and Funmi.
